Beaglefest X - Day 1
Beaglefest X Itinerary - Thursday

Welcome to California
Flights were all good and didn't have to wait long between them.
So lucky! I got my period - UG. Here I thought I had another week. Thank goodness I didn't have any accidents. There was a Walmart a few miles away so I walked over and bought a few more supplies.
The class of people around here is scary. This is the first time in a long time that I felt unsafe.
I came back to the hotel which is very nice and had a nap.
After my nap I walked a ways to a small grocery store and bought some apples and bottled water. I thought at least I could keep up with my apple a day routine while here.
I went & had dinner at this little restaurant. It was very good.
Gonna go to bed early tonight as I want to go to Santa Rosa in the morning and be back for the Beaglefest X registration @ 2pm.

50 lb mark
I have had this mental block for 2 months now. I started out great, losing 2-3 lbs a week. Then I missed my first goal at the end of April. I was off by 4.4 lbs. That's not a big deal really but at the time it seemed so to me. It didn't help that the week before my goal my boss got let go and I assumed half his responsibilities PLUS going to school 2 times a night! The past 2 months has been topsy turvey and stressful. But I made it. I was able to consistently lose the weight and not gain anything back. If I lost my focus during this time in my life I don't think I would be as successful as I feel today.
So today is a historical day for me... I have officially lost 51.4 lbs as of today.
I still have more weight to lose but I feel a 100% better than before. I'm sleeping better (when the dogs let me!), have more energy and now fitting into clothes with more options than before. YAY me!!
My journey is still a work in progress but I will never be big again. This change in lifestyle is easy to follow - no sugar & carbs - and when I hit my goal weight, it will be easy to maintain.
So to all you neigh sayers out there, all I can say is PLLLLTTTT.
I will succeed and you'll have to eat your words. If you can't be supportive, I don't want to hear it. You can talk behind my back all you want. I will succeed!

Father's Day Adventure
The pathway we took follows the top of the ridge just by mom & dad's house. On the one side you see all the homes with their fancy yards and newly constructed houses. Some of these homes are huge with magnificant back yards.
Along the other side is a ridge down to the river. Parts are gently sloping with open fields and trees and other parts are a sheer drop off. The view is very beautiful - with the river, golf course across the river and the mountains as a back drop.
We walked along the ridge pathway to the very end. Basically a dead end until the newer construction is completed. Normally when we head home we walk back along the main street in the neighborhood. This time we decided to take the ridge back.
As we were rounding near the end, we came upon this young buck just eating grass along the top of the ridge right beside the pathway. We stopped to enjoy the view. A jogger came by and passed us and at the time the buck looked as if it was going to charge the jogger. Thank goodness it didn't. Instead the buck came closer to us. At that time Lucy saw it was coming close and started to let out an AROO and back as if to say stay away. Lucy isn't afraid of much.
The buck looked at us and then just walked away. It wasn't afraid, skittish or anything. Just turned away and went on his merry way. I thought this was very unusual as this was at about 10:30am and I thought it was late for him to be around such a busy place.
So I got to spend a precious encounter with my Dad. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Happy Father's Day papa!

Starting the wind down
My little stress started back on April 26th...that was the day my boss got let go. I was told that it was almost impossible to get let go from work but I guess when you don't do your job for such a long time it finally catches up with you. So he was let go and I got half his duties.
A guy who has been there for a while and in a similar role to my boss got to split the duties with me. It has been an interesting ride and very enlightening. He is someone who I hardly interact with and have really enjoyed being mentored by him. He has taught me a lot and I'll never be able to repay that.
We've been running the technical services department for almost two months now. Wow, what a ride. Thankfully a new manager has been hired and starts on Monday - WOO HOO (doing the Snoopy dance). I did apply for my old boss' job but am really grateful I didn't get it! I don't think I could handle the stress. Ok that's not true. I'd be able to know what direction to take a few things instead of just keeping it above water. I know I would have been awesome but maybe it is for the better.
When I interviewed with the VP of Operations and my old boss' boss, they were both impressed. And when they told me I didn't get the job they said that I've been doing such a good job with projects, that they'd like to see me get my PMP - Project Management Professional - designation. This brings me to my second little stress...
I had started taking classes late last year and after humming and hawing it was suggested by my boss at the time that I should finish the courses and get my PM certificate. So I investigated it and signed up for an aggressive schedule of the 6 courses.... all within 2 months! There were only two day courses (all day Friday & Saturday) but most of the courses have been after work. From 6pm to 9:45pm. At the time I didn't think anything of it as my boss agreed to it and would be my backup and be able to cover things..... oh if I only knew he was going to get let go!
So for the past 2 months besides doing 2 jobs (1 I was just learning about) I've been going to school as well. One thing I am truly grateful for is my parents. I don't think I would have survived this if it wasn't for them. With them looking after Lucy (& Snoopy) it has been truly a blessing. Also a HUGE hug and thank you to my favourite sister for inviting me to her house the nights I had classes and feeding me dinner. I thank you from the bottom of my heart to both my parents and my sister.
I've been able to work on a few projects at work but we are also renovating the main floor. We are giving back half the space so there are major renovations underway. The facilities manager from out East has been having me do a lot of the work for him. It has been challenging. I tell you having to babysit contractors to get work done is stressful.
My final class was on Thursday and I was so tired I almost fell asleep in it! I had to keep getting up and walking around. Thank goodness it is over with and I just have to study and write my final paper in the fall.
Work done for another week and the new manager starting Monday I get to start to wind down.
Plus I'm taking a mini-vacation at the end of the month. I am going to a Peanuts Collectors Club conference in Santa Rosa California. I found about this on the Internet a while ago. I was again procrastinating whether to go or not but it is the 10th Anniversary for the conference and this being Peanuts 60th Anniversary I thought I'd go. Yes I'm going by myself as I don't want anyone to be bored while I'm paying homage to my heroes Charlie Brown & Snoopy!
I'm really looking forward to the event, don't know a soul and am gonna have a great relaxing time. I am staying in vineyard country so the weather will be good. None of this crazy rain we've been getting. I'm getting excited as I received the itinerary for the event and it sounds like so much Peanutty good fun!
We are going to have some exclusive time at the Schulz museum and other places.... oh I can't wait.
Well that has been my life for the past two months in a nutshell so I'm off to bed now to try to catch up on some much deserved sleep and relaxation.
Stay tuned for Peanuts pictures and adventures!

Spring snow and fall
This morning at 1:35am Lucy had to go outside so I took her and Snoopy out. It was still snowing and the porch and stairs were covered in snow. I have my boots on and jacket ready to go pick up poo before Lucy starts having a way to early morning snack when I slipped on the stairs to the grass. Thankfully there are only 2 stairs. I tried to right myself and grabbed the rail with my right hand but that didn't help. I went crash, slid on my butt down the final stair, landed on my back between the shoulder blades on the stair and came to a screeching stop on the ground. Ok this is embarrassing but I had to pee and yup, I peed myself. Ok you can laugh as I did!
The beags came to see if I was alright and if they could help - thanks Lucy but jumping on me when I'm laying in the wet snow doesn't constitute helping!
I get up and take the girls back into the house. So my right hand has the skin torn where the fingers join the palm and is a little bruised & swollen. How do you bandage that up? Guess I'll have to make a glove type bandage and put some silver cream on it to make it start healing.
In July of last year I did a similar tumble but this was down the stairs into the basement. That time I did whack my head and had a concussion. I was off work for a month and so I'm very weary of my fragile skull.
I went back to bed and am all ok. I thought I'd be stiffer but the only thing that really hurts is my hand. I'll be taking it easy today. Today is a "PJ and snooze on the couch as much as Lucy will let me" day.
I haven't had time lately to quilt so again I'm sad to say my 2010 Quilt Block of the day project is on hold. Besides Lucy, it has been crazy insanely busy at work. Last year I was complaining about nothing to do! This will teach me to keep my big mouth shut.

Lucky Amber Heart

After midnight...
2am: Snoopy wakes up, shakes and jumps off the bed. Lucy wakes up thinking it is time to be fed. Take Lucy outside for a pee and back to bed.
3am: Snoopy wants to be fed NOW. Wakes Lucy by shaking and flapping her ears. Lucy wakes and starts to fidget. Go upstairs and am met by Paige. Take all three dogs outside to go pee. Come back inside and feed all three dogs. Lucy jumps, does circles and finally sits for her breakfast. She chomps down on it.
3:05am: With everyone's breakfast eaten, take Lucy back outside to do her business. This time a pee and #2. Come back in and everyone back to bed.
3:15am: Snoopy hasn't come back to bed and is sleeping on the couch. Lucy restless as Snoopy isn't in the room.
4am: Lucy restless as Snoopy is still in the other room. Attempt to get Lucy back to sleep.
4:45am: Lucy restless again but am able to get her back to sleep - 15 more minutes please!
5:04am: Alarm doesn't go off but Snoopy fidgets again and wakes Lucy. See why alarm didn't go of as it was turned on...... OH! It was set for noon!?! Everyone helps me make the bed. Take Snoopy & Lucy outside to go pee & #2 again. Back inside and downstairs to have a shower.
5:20am: Step out of the shower to find a nice surprise. Someone has learnt that if you play with the toilet paper you can gather a HUGE pile on the floor. Then you can tear it apart. Also you can pull the towel off the holder, pull on Yoga pants to drop them to the floor and tug real hard to remove the belt from the housecoat. Nice pile to play with and lay on while mom is in the shower.
5:25am: Attempt to pick up everything off the floor while wearing a towel that is being tugged on. Bend over and the towel that was on your head is magically yanked off your head. Quickly get underwear on and attempt to get housecoat on. Take Lucy outside for another pee. Come back and get back downstairs to get dressed.
5:30am: Attempt to get ready - put on make up, brush teeth, blow dry hair - while playing with a rambunctious puppy.
5:45am: Dress we head upstairs for breakfast. I send Lucy & Snoopy outside again for another pee. While outside I start making my breakfast.
5:47am: Bring dogs in and give them a cookie each so I can finish getting breakfast ready. Start eating and go into office so we can play, I can check my email, send birthday wishes to cousin Michelle and attempt to blog. Lucy harasses Snoopy so have to break that up several times. Have to chase Lucy to get her back into the office. Breakfast on hold. Go get all her toys and bring them into the office. Attempt to eat again but have to shut door to keep her from going to master bedroom door as Lucy attempts to wake Paige for playing.
6:20am: Get Lucy outside so I can go have a pee myself.
6:23am: Go get Lucy from outside to see that she has brought a present - a nice frozen poo at the back door. What is with this dog and poo!?!?! Get shoes on and go outside to pick up any poo I can find. Come back into the house. Play with Lucy and attempt to finish blog.
6:30am: Stop blog and turn off computer. Need to attempt to wind down monster before she goes into her crate. We sit in the reclining chair but she is fidgeting. Calm her down by pretending to fall asleep.
6:45am: Put calmed Lucy into her crate and head off to work.
7:15am: At work and finishing up blog as I'll forget what I was gonna write if I don't!
7:30am: Day begins.

Dear Jane on HOLD & other stuff
Well I’ve been thinking and I’m going to be putting my Dear Jane quilt project on hold – either until the Fall or until next year. I just haven’t had the chance to do any quilting since getting Lucy and this quilt requires a lot of concentration. So I’ll continue receiving the monthly patterns and fabric but will keep them boxed up until the time comes when I can work on them again.
I will be starting on my Block of the Day again as I’m falling behind on this. But if I cut out the material for 3-4 days and then put the blocks together I should get caught up again. I could get a couple of blocks done per day this way. I’d like to also get ahead on these again as I’m going to busy the next little while.
Lucy & I start puppy classes on Tuesday. Actually the first class is without her but then we are going for a good 6 weeks. After that I will be taking Project Management courses for the month of May and June. I want to get my certification and also my boss has been asking me about this. We had talked about it last year with my performance evaluation and I see he is going to bring it up again this year. I am going to make him pay for it though.
The last couple of nights/early mornings I’ve been really, really dizzy and light headed. So much so that when I take Lucy out at 1-2am I can’t stand or walk. I’m almost in a drunken state and have to hold onto things to ensure that I don’t fall over. It is very scary. Even laying down I feel like the room is spinning. I do get better as the morning goes on but I hope this stop. Two days is a row is enough for me now.
A Happy belated Birthday to Uncle Ken who is enjoying himself down in New Zealand!

Feb.26: Dominican Republic Vacation - Day 7
Sheila was wrong and we didn`t have breakfast on this excursion. I was ready to pass out and have had a terrible headache all day now. We finally had lunch at 1pm.
After that we went to a jewelry store where they sold Larimar and Amber. I bought mom a little amber heart.
We then went to an old fort. It was interesting to see the 3 foot thick walls and how it was still in really good shape.

Feb.24: Dominican Republic Vacation - Day 5
I saw a live crab on the beach today and took some pictures.
Sheila and I went for a walk down the beach & found a market at the end.
I bought a mobile of fish for $20.
I ate WAY too much at dinner tonight and feel uncomfortable. I can't walk even. I've eaten way too much this trip and I'm worried about how much I've gained back,
I had my picture taken today and I look horrible.
Going to bed early tonight as we've got to get up at 6am to be ready for whale watching tomorrow at 7am.
I'm really looking forward to tomorrow.
Me, Sheila & John - ug MY FAT ARMS!
