Basement Under Stairs Storage

My next, or on my list of ToDo’s, is tackling the basement under stairs storage. I find it messy and not very practical. Plus I am going to be doing some purging from stuff under there as I know of a few things that can be tossed.

Right now I am in the planning phase but guess I should also pull everything out so I can see what I am working with. Wish me luck!

Mom's Flower Quilt

So when your mother hands you a box full of fabric and asks you to sew it together to make her a quilt, this is what you get. Oh I should mention that I had to spend about an hour organizing the fabric as it was all tossed into the box (sorry no picture of that mess). Did I mention that these are SMALL - 2"x3". Should be interesting as she wants it to be 60" wide.

Stay tuned for the pattern and progress. Don't worry I'm still working on the Farmer's Wife quilt, I just haven't quilted in about 2 weeks! Been busy with enjoying the outdoors and working on the yard.

Farmer's Wife - Block 19

Checkerboard

These are coming along nicely. Thankfully I just have 37 paper piecing blocks left to do.

Farmer's Wife - Block 13

Buckwheat

Haven't worked on this project for a bit as I've been trying to finish another quilt.

I want to use up my 1930s fabric and the quilt I had just wasn't large enough. So I had to make another 68 blocks and was busy cutting them out. Of course I ran out of the fabric thus I had to go through my stash. Needless to say, I should be able to work on that quilt and these blocks to get both quilts done.

Farmer's Wife - Block 75

Rosebud

I hope I'm getting this. Ignore the chip in the top right.... that was intentional - haha.

Farmer's Wife - Block 94

Tall Pine Tree

Not my favourite but it should have been. I had issues with the left green side. You don't know how many times I had it backwards as I couldn't get it. Thank goodness I didn't run out of the fabric I chose.

You may say my blocks aren't square (at least the recent ones) but believe me when I say they are. I put the finished block on my chair which has the black background and it is curved. Thus the sides look wonky but they aren't.

Farmer's Wife - Block 58

Mother's Dream

Ha, I just noticed the name of this block and find it funny that this weekend is Mother's Day. Anyway I tried something different with this paper pieced block. I made sure that I had extra material for all the parts. I then when I go to connect the pieces, I ensure I have the 1/4 inch. I can then square the block of to the 6.5" and it cuts off the extra that I had used. Will see if this works for more complicated blocks - FINGERS CROSSED.

Farmer's Wife - Block 20 & 111

Block 20 - Churn Dash
Block 111 - Wrench

So both of these blocks are the same as per the original pattern. The only difference with the original pattern was the use of different colours. Since my blocks are all scrappy, I just made two of the same block using different fabrics.

Farmer's Wife - Block 10

Bow Tie

This should have been EASY if the template was the right size. Even with adding the 1/8 inch, it still came short. This block is 6.25"

I might have to rethink the sizes once I get the blocks done.

Farmer's Wife - Block 8

Bouquet

And here I thought I had these templates figured out. Wow the instructions on this one was WAY off. The bottom triangle measurement indicated 3" when it was actually 5". But I figured it out and finished it.

Farmer's Wife - Block 83

Spider Web

I think I finally figured out these templates. I made sure that I had fabric larger then the template on all levels. Then when I went to square them up as per the template markings, I added 1/8th of an inch. This made the block bigger overall, so I just had to then trim it to the 6.5" square. Seems to have worked out perfectly for this complicated block.

Farmer's Wife - Block 49

Honeycomb

Farmer's Wife - Block 5

Bat Wing

So I've looked at my templates and they are not the correct unfinished size of 6.5". I will keep practicing my paper piecing but will not fret when the sizes are not correct. I can only do what I can with what I have. I'm sure I will get better with practice and will be able to accommodate the wonky sizes.

Farmer's Wife - Block 95

Temperance Tree

Since I started doing half square triangles, I thought I'd give this a block as I need 18 - 1.5" of them!

I think I need to find better patterns as again, I had to figure out this block and am 1/8" shy. Oh well, onto the next one!

Farmer's Wife - Block 93

Swallow

Still figuring out the blocks.  I'm going off pictures and not exact measurements. This one is close with a little mistake but who is perfect anyway?
